Alocasia cucullata Care
Alocasia cucullata, also known as Buddha's Palm or Elephant Ear, is a majestic tropical plant with large, deep green, glossy, heart-shaped leaves. Its impressive height of 130 cm makes it a striking decorative element for larger spaces, halls, and conservatories.
💧 Watering Keep the substrate evenly moist – water when the top layer (approx. 2–3 cm) is dry. It does not tolerate complete drying out or overwatering. Note: Use standing water at room temperature.
☀️ Light Prefers bright indirect light.
Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the large leaves.
In low light, growth slows and the leaves lose their luster.
🌡️ Temperature and Air
Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C.
Cold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C or drafts.
Humidity: Requires high air humidity (above 60%). Mist regularly or place on a tray with moist pebbles. During the heating season, a humidifier is recommended.
🌿 Fertilizing During the growing season (spring–summer), fertilize once a month with a liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Completely omit fertilization in winter.
🧻 Substrate and Repotting Requires a light, humic, and well-draining substrate – a peat mixture with perlite is ideal. Repot in spring when the roots fill the pot.
⚠️ Warning Alocasia is toxic to pets and children if ingested. Keep out of their reach.
