Alocasia gageana California is a robust tropical plant with large, stiff, deep green leaves featuring prominent veins. Unlike other alocasias, California is hardier and more tolerant of less-than-ideal conditions. Its impressive height of 90 cm makes it a striking feature in any interior.
Watering Keep the substrate evenly moist – water when the top layer (approx. 2–3 cm) is dry. It does not tolerate complete drying out or waterlogging. Caution: Use room-temperature, standing water.
Light Prefers bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Tolerates partial shade better than other alocasias.
Temperature and Humidity
Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C.
Cold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C or drafts.
Humidity: Appreciates higher air humidity. During the heating season, we recommend a humidifier.
Fertilizing During the growing season (spring–summer), fertilize once a month with a liquid fertilizer for houseplants at half concentration. Completely omit fertilizing in winter.
Substrate and Repotting Requires a light, humus-rich, and well-draining substrate. Repot in spring when the roots fill the pot.
Warning Alocasia is toxic to pets and children if ingested. Keep out of their reach.
