Alocasia Macrorrhiza, also known as Giant Taro or Elephant Ear, is an impressive tropical plant with large, glossy deep green leaves. Its architectural shape and prominent white veins make it a striking decorative element for bright interiors and conservatories.
Watering Keep the substrate evenly moist – water when the top layer (approx. 2–3 cm) is dry. It does not tolerate complete drying out or overwatering. Note: Use standing water at room temperature.
Light Prefers bright indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the large leaves.
Growth slows down in insufficient light.
Temperature and Air
Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C.
Cold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C and drafts.
Humidity: Requires high air humidity (above 60%). During the heating season, we recommend a humidifier.
Fertilizing During the growing season (spring–summer), fertilize once a month with liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Omit fertilization entirely in winter.
Substrate and Repotting Requires a light, humus-rich, and well-draining substrate. Repot in spring when the roots fill the pot.
Warning Alocasia is toxic to pets and children if ingested. Keep out of their reach.
