Alocasia micholitziana Frydek, also known as Green Velvet, is a captivating tropical plant with dark green velvety leaves adorned with prominent white veins. Its velvety texture and dramatic color contrast make it one of the most striking houseplants.
Watering Keep the substrate evenly moist – water when the top layer (approx. 2–3 cm) is dry. It does not tolerate complete drying out or overwatering. Note: Use room-temperature, standing water.
Light Prefers bright, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage the velvety leaves.
In low light, it slows growth and loses color intensity.
Temperature and Humidity
Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C (64–82 °F).
Cold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C (59 °F) or drafts.
Humidity: Requires high air humidity (above 60%). Mist regularly or place on a pebble tray with water. During the heating season, we recommend a humidifier – dry air causes brown leaf tips.
Fertilization During the growing season (spring–summer), fertilize once a month with liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Completely omit fertilization in winter.
Substrate and Repotting Requires a light, humus-rich, and well-draining substrate – a peat-based mix with perlite is ideal. Repot in spring when the roots fill the pot.
Warning Alocasia is toxic to pets and children if ingested. Keep out of their reach.
