Alocasia Zebrina Care
Alocasia Zebrina is an elegant tropical plant that immediately captivates with its distinctive zebra-striped stems and large, glossy leaves. It is a true indoor diva – and you will love it for that.
Watering
Alocasia Zebrina loves moisture but dislikes being waterlogged.
When to water: Water regularly as soon as the top layer of substrate (approx. 2–3 cm) dries out.
Beware of overwatering: Standing water at the roots causes rot – always ensure drainage and remove excess water from the saucer.
Water: Use soft, standing water at room temperature.
Light
Placement: It needs bright, indirect light – ideally near an east or west-facing window.
Lack of light: In shade, it loses its vibrancy and slows its growth.
Direct sun: Direct midday sun can scorch the leaves – shade it in summer.
Temperature and Air
Ideal temperature: 18–25 °C. Sensitive to cold – must not be exposed to temperatures below 15 °C or drafts.
Humidity: As a tropical plant, it loves high air humidity (60% and more). Regularly mist the leaves or place the pot on a tray with moist gravel.
Fertilization and Growth
Fertilization: From March to September, fertilize every 2 weeks with liquid fertilizer. In winter, skip fertilization entirely.
Growth: Alocasia grows quickly and can be quite lush.
Substrate
Composition: Quality potting mix for houseplants mixed with perlite in a 2:1 ratio to ensure good drainage.
Drainage: A layer of expanded clay at the bottom of the pot with drainage holes is an absolute must.
