Asplenium antiquum, also known as Bird's Nest Fern, is an elegant fern with glossy, light green leaves that grow into a characteristic nest-like shape. It brings a tropical touch to the interior and is perfectly suited for both modern and natural interiors.
Watering Keep the substrate evenly moist. Water when the top layer (approx. 1–2 cm) is dry. It does not tolerate overwatering or complete drying out. Use standing water at room temperature.
Light Prefers partial shade to indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Ideal for rooms with window light.
Also tolerates slightly darker locations.
Temperature and air
Ideal temperature: 18–25 °C.
Humidity: Requires higher air humidity – adding water to the saucer or using a humidifier.
Cold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C and drafts.
Fertilizing During the growing season (spring–summer), fertilize once a month with liquid fern fertilizer at half strength. Omit fertilization in winter.
Substrate and repotting Requires a light, well-draining substrate rich in organic matter. Repot in spring when the roots fill the pot.
