Care for Begonia U614

Begonia U614 is a rare collector's begonia with distinct textured leaves and unique coloration. Like many species of the genus Begonia, it originates from tropical rainforests and creates an impressive botanical accent indoors. Despite its exotic origin, even a less experienced grower can manage it if they follow basic care rules.

💧 Watering Water moderately – only when the top layer of the substrate (approx. 2–3 cm) is dry. Begonias generally dislike overwatering or complete drying out. Caution: Water must not stand in the saucer under the pot. Use soft, standing water at room temperature and water directly into the substrate – not on the leaves.

☀️ Light Prefers bright indirect light – ideally placed by an east or west-facing window.

• Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves and damage their coloration.

• Lack of light will slow growth and cause the leaves to lose their distinctiveness.

🌡️ Temperature and Air

• Ideal temperature: 18–26 °C.

• Cold: Does not tolerate temperatures below 15 °C and drafts.

• Humidity: Requires higher air humidity (50–70%). We recommend a humidifier or placing it on a tray with moist pebbles. Do not mist directly onto the leaves – water droplets can cause spots and rot.

🌿 Fertilization During the growing season (spring–summer), fertilize once every 3–4 weeks with diluted liquid houseplant fertilizer at one-quarter to half concentration. Completely omit fertilization in winter – the plant may go dormant. Begonias are sensitive to over-fertilization and salt buildup.

🧽 Substrate and Repotting Requires a light, airy, and well-draining substrate – an ideal mix is peat or coconut fiber with perlite (approx. 1:1 ratio). Repot carefully in spring when roots fill the pot, always only one size larger.

⚠️ Warning Begonia U614 is toxic to pets and children. If ingested, it can cause digestive tract irritation. Keep out of reach of animals and small children.
