Monstera adansonii Monkey Mask is a popular tropical houseplant with characteristic perforated leaves shaped like a monkey mask. It grows quickly and is suitable for both hanging and growing on a support. It brings an exotic touch to any interior and is popular with growers of all levels.
Watering
Water only when the top half of the substrate is dry. Monstera tolerates short-term drought better than overwatering — excess water leads to root rot. Use room temperature water.
Light
It thrives best in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate partial shade, but in low light, the leaves will lose their characteristic holes. Direct sun can scorch the leaves.
Temperature and Humidity
Ideal temperature: 18–27 °C. Sensitive to drafts and temperatures below 15 °C. Higher air humidity (50% or more) will promote healthy growth and the formation of holes in the leaves.
Fertilizing
During spring and summer, fertilize every 14 days with liquid fertilizer for green plants. In winter, fertilize once a month or not at all.
Substrate
Use a light, well-draining potting mix for houseplants with added perlite or bark for better aeration and drainage.
