Nephrolepis exaltata, also known as the Boston fern, is a classic houseplant with lush, light green fronds. It is ideal for hanging pots or as a decoration on shelves and windowsills.
Watering
Keep the substrate consistently moist – the fern does not tolerate drying out. Water regularly, but avoid letting water stand in the saucer. Use soft water at room temperature.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light or partial shade. Direct sun can scorch the fronds. It can tolerate lower light intensity, but will grow more slowly.
Temperature and Humidity
Ideal temperature: 16–24 °C. Requires higher air humidity – regular misting or placing it on a tray with pebbles and water helps significantly. Avoid drafts and dry air from heaters.
Fertilization
During spring and summer, fertilize every 14 days with liquid fertilizer for green plants. Fertilize less often or not at all in winter.
Substrate
Use a light, well-draining substrate rich in humus. A mixture of peat substrate with perlite is ideal.
