Caring for Xanthosoma Lindenii caladium

Xanthosoma Lindenii can be challenging to keep as houseplants (especially if you live in an already dry climate), but their stunning foliage makes them worth the extra effort required.

💧 Watering

Water when the top 1/3 of the soil in the pot is dry. With their long stems and large leaves, Caladium will visibly droop when they start to dry out.

Use settled or rainwater at room temperature. Chlorinated and cold water is not good for them.

☀️ Light

They thrive best in bright indirect light (aka filtered light) to maintain their vibrant colors.

They can be grown in medium indirect light, but growth will be leggier with stems stretched to the point where they may not be able to support the leaves, and the color will not be as vibrant.

The best placement is by an east or west-facing window behind a sheer curtain.

🌡️ Temperature and air

The ideal temperature is 18–27 °C.

It does not tolerate cold below 15 °C.

Ideal humidity: 60–80 % - If your home is dry (below 50%), the plant will have brown and dry leaf edges.

It thrives well near a humidifier or in a group with other plants that maintain a microclimate around them. Misting leaves only helps short-term; a tray with water and LECA under the pot is better.

🌿 Fertilizing

During the growing season (spring–autumn), fertilize every 14 days with liquid fertilizer for ornamental plants, but preferably at half the concentration indicated by the manufacturer. They are sensitive to over-fertilization (root burn).

🧽 Substrate

It must be extremely airy. An aroid mix (peat + pine bark + perlite + coconut chips) is ideal.
