Watering
When to water: Water when the top 3–5 cm of the substrate has dried out. Keep the soil slightly moist during the growing season and reduce watering in winter.
Avoid overwatering: Always pour excess water out of the saucer or pot cover. The roots must not sit in water.
Water: Room-temperature water that has been left to stand is ideal.
Light
Placement: Give it a very bright spot with indirect light, preferably near an east-, south-, or west-facing window.
Direct sunlight: Morning or evening sun is beneficial. Gradually acclimate it to strong midday sun.
Temperature and air
Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C. Protect the plant from drafts and temperatures below 15 °C.
Humidity: It does well in average to higher indoor humidity. Wipe the large leaves regularly with a damp cloth.
Fertilizing and growth
Fertilizing: From spring to fall, feed every 2–4 weeks with fertilizer for foliage houseplants. Reduce feeding in winter.
Growth: Turn the pot slightly on a regular basis to encourage even growth. Naturally split leaves are common in Strelitzia.
Substrate
Composition: Use an airy, well-draining houseplant substrate with added perlite.
Drainage: The pot must have drainage holes and a good drainage layer.
Warning
The plant is not suitable for consumption. Keep it out of reach of children and pets.
