Strelitzia, known as "bird of paradise flower" or "crane flower," is an iconic tropical plant with large, stiff leaves. Its exotic appearance brings an atmosphere of a tropical paradise to any interior. With sufficient light, it can even bloom indoors.
Watering
Water only when the top third of the substrate is dry. Strelitzia tolerates short dry periods better than overwatering. Water less frequently in winter.
Light
Requires as much light as possible — ideally direct sun or bright indirect light. Place it as close to a window as possible. Insufficient light will slow growth and prevent flowering.
Temperature and Humidity
Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C. Tolerates short-term cooling to 10 °C, but not frost. Air humidity is not critical, but occasional misting of the leaves is beneficial.
Fertilizing
During spring and summer, fertilize every 14 days with liquid fertilizer for flowering plants. In winter, fertilize once a month or not at all.
Substrate
Use an airy, well-draining substrate. An ideal mix is houseplant substrate with added perlite and sand.
